Severe testicular infection in dog
Posted by Carlos Aguiar on Thursday, December 3, 2015
A 40lb male husky presented with right swollen testicle. He was given antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication but the inflammation did not decrease. We sedated him and cleaned the area. We found fistulas exiting the testicle filled with thick pus. We also found that the right testicle had adhered to the scrotum and was hard and gritty to the touch.
Both testicles and scrotum were removed. A culture and sensitivity of the pus was sent for analysis.
Castration of male dogs decreases incidence of roaming, testicular cancers, hernias and mounting behavior. Spaying females will decrease the incidence of cancer, pregnancy and bloody vaginal discharge every 6 months.
